Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri Represents Tunisia at 4th UN Conference on Financing for Development

Sevilla: Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri is participating in the 4th UN International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Sevilla, Spain, on behalf of President Kaïs Saïed. The conference, taking place from June 30 to July 1, 2025, focuses on implementing the 2030 Agenda and promoting reforms in the international financial architecture. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, Prime Minister Zenzri will engage in numerous panels addressing economic issues and hold discussions with heads of state and government, as well as officials from international financial institutions and global groups. The event aims to drive reforms in financing at all levels and to address barriers to investment. The FfD4 convenes leaders from governments, international and regional organizations, financial and trade institutions, the private sector, civil society, and the UN system. The goal is to rethink how the world finances sustainable development, with an emphasis on the need for an additional $4 trillion a nnually to tackle global challenges such as poverty, hunger, climate change, and inequality. These challenges are encapsulated in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that countries aim to achieve by 2030, though progress is hindered by inconsistent funding. On June 25, 2025, despite the United States' withdrawal, UN member states reached a consensus on the final document of FfD4, known as the 'Compromiso de Sevilla' (Sevilla Commitment), which will be formally adopted at the summit. The document, a result of extensive negotiations, serves as a renewed framework to mobilize financing for sustainable development and address the $4 trillion annual funding gap, particularly impacting developing nations. The Sevilla summit represents the fourth major UN conference on development financing, building on previous gatherings such as the Monterrey Consensus of 2002. This year's forum seeks concrete commitments to support the achievement of the SDGs by 2030 and reinforces existing commitments, particularly tho se outlined in the 2015 Addis Ababa Action Agenda.
