Nkrankwanta: The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has completed the construction and handover of water facilities to several underserved communities in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region. The communities benefiting from these new water systems include Yaakrom, Kwakuanya, Kyekyewere, and Nkrankwanta, all of which are cocoa-growing areas within the district.

According to Ghana News Agency, during a ceremony held in Nkrankwanta, Mr. Patrick Antwi, the Bono and Ahafo Regional Manager of the PURC, emphasized that the facilities were built as part of the Commission’s ‘pro-poor project’. This initiative aims to provide clean water to communities that lack adequate resources. Mr. Antwi urged the District Assembly to take responsibility for maintaining the newly established facilities.

Mr. Antwi noted the absence of services from the Ghana Water Company Limited in these communities, highlighting the necessity for the Commission’s intervention in ensuring access to potable water. Mr. Francis Kwa
dwo Oppong, the Dormaa West District Chief Executive, acknowledged the previous challenges residents faced in accessing clean water and expressed gratitude to the PURC for the new facilities.

Mr. Oppong also mentioned that the Assembly had previously installed boreholes in some areas, but these were insufficient to meet the community’s needs. He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining the new water systems. Additionally, Madam Naomi Akua, a resident of the Nkrankwanta Polyclinic area, voiced her appreciation to the PURC, noting the positive impact the facility would have on the quality of life for local residents.
