Redesign Curriculum to Respond to Reforms in Second Cycle Institutions, Universities Advised.


Accra: Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister for Education, has urged tertiary institutions to design their curriculum to respond to emerging government reforms in second-cycle institutions. He emphasized that the new reforms are technologically oriented, aiming to prepare students for the demands of 21st-century skills. This announcement was made at the maiden edition of the National Tertiary Education Conference organized by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the conference, themed ‘Transforming Tertiary Education in Ghana: Dialogue, Policy, and Practice,’ highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between policy and practice to advance tertiary education in Ghana. The event also marked the 10th anniversary of the African Centres of Excellence for Development Impact (ACE IMPACT), focusing on fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and engaging in dialogue on critical issues in tertiary education.

The Minister of Education pointed out that new subjects in
troduced in the second cycle institutions as part of the reforms include robotics, engineering, aviation and aerospace, biomedical science, and design communication technology. He emphasized that teaching these subjects in high schools necessitates tertiary institutions to redesign their curriculum to incorporate an accelerated program for students.
