Residents Applaud MTN Ghana for Zero Maternal Deaths at Keta Hospital

Keta: Residents in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have commended MTN Ghana for their contribution to achieving zero maternal fatalities at the Keta Municipal Hospital over the past year, from July 2024 to July 2025. This remarkable achievement is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the hospital staff, administration, and stakeholders, including MTN Ghana.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Senam Aladey, a lactating mother and Keta resident, emphasized the importance of recognizing and applauding MTN Ghana's contributions to the hospital's success. She highlighted MTN Ghana's instrumental role in supporting maternal health initiatives, notably through the commissioning of the Maternity NICU Complex, which has significantly reduced maternal mortality in the area.

Madam Aladey noted that the state-of-the-art Maternal and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Complex, established by the MTN Ghana Foundation in 2024, has been transformative. The facility provides critical care to newborns and mothers, reducing complications and mortality risks. MTN Ghana's investment in this facility has been a pivotal factor in the hospital's success.

Mr. George Mensah, another Keta resident, expressed to the GNA that the Keta Municipal Hospital's achievement of zero maternal deaths in one year marks a significant step towards reducing maternal mortality locally. He praised the hospital's commitment to high-quality maternal healthcare and saving lives, attributing much of the success to MTN Ghana's initiative.

Dr. Martha Ampadu, the Obstetrician Gynecology and Head of Department at the hospital's Maternity and NICU, previously shared with GNA that MTN Ghana's role in supporting maternal health initiatives deserves commendation. She elaborated that the company's contributions have tangibly improved the lives of women and children, enhancing healthcare outcomes in the region.

Dr. Ampadu also noted that MTN Ghana's impact extends beyond the hospital, with increased patient attendance and improved community health and well-being, particularly for women and children.

Mr. Faruk Iddrisu, the hospital's Administrator, emphasized that the partnership with MTN Ghana, combined with the staff's dedication, has driven the hospital's significant achievement. He highlighted the importance of not resting on laurels and the ongoing collaboration with MTN and other partners to sustain and enhance future maternal healthcare initiatives.

Mr. Iddrisu expressed hope that other organizations would emulate MTN Ghana's example in supporting community-beneficial initiatives, as the hospital strives for excellence in maternal and healthcare delivery.

Further information from GNA reveals that MTN Ghana invested approximately GH? 19 million in constructing a 60-bed maternity and child health block at the Keta Municipal Hospital, commissioned in 2024, to reduce neonatal mortality rates.
