Retired Catechist Celebrated for 50 Years of Devotion to Catholic Church

Navrongo-bolgatanga: Mr. Roland Adongo Nyaaba, a retired Catholic Catechist in the Catholic Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga, was honored for his 50 years of service during a Golden Jubilee Mass at Saint Francis of Assisi Rectorate, Sumbrungu. The celebration was presided over by The Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, Bishop of the Diocese, who praised Mr. Nyaaba for his continued dedication to the church and community even after his retirement in 2013. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Nyaaba's career as a catechist began in 1973 at Sumbrungu Catholic Church after completing his training at the Saint Charles Lwanga Lay Apostles Institute in Walewale. He was baptized and confirmed in May 1964. Over the years, he served in various outstations and played a pivotal role in the establishment of several community projects, including the Saint Charles Lwanga Basic School, the only Catholic school in the Sumbrungu community. The Most Reverend Agyenta highlighted Mr. Nyaaba's unwavering commitment to his faith and commu nity, describing his life as "full of gratitude and service to God and his people." He also encouraged younger catechists to follow in Mr. Nyaaba's footsteps. Throughout his career, Mr. Nyaaba received several awards recognizing his contributions to the church and community. These include certificates of honor for his long service, contributions to religious education, and his efforts in translating religious texts from English to Gurune. Mr. Nyaaba officially retired in 2013 after 40 years of active service, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and selfless service that continues to inspire many within the diocese.
