Rev. Minister Urges Preservation of Ghanaian Culture and Tradition

SUNYANI: The Reverend Dr. Solomon Bruce, Superintendent Minister and Synod Secretary of the Sunyani Methodist Diocese, has urged parents to teach their children about Ghanaian culture and traditional values, emphasizing their importance for national identity. He warned that these cultural elements are gradually disappearing and must be preserved by the younger generation. According to Ghana News Agency, Rev. Dr. Bruce delivered his message during a sermon at a church service in Sunyani, themed "our culture, our value." The service was organized by the Diocese to underscore the importance of culture and tradition in modern society. Rev. Bruce expressed concern that many young people and some adults have neglected Ghanaian culture, opting instead for Western influences. He noted the decline in traditional practices, such as wearing traditional clothing, performing traditional dances, and preparing traditional foods. Rev. Dr. Bruce encouraged the youth to embrace their cultural heritage, emphasizing that every society has unique cultural practices that offer specific benefits. He advised against blindly adopting foreign cultures and highlighted the need to preserve cultural practices, including clothing, music, language, and food, to maintain Ghanaian identity. He urged Ghanaians to take pride in their culture, advocating for its defense and preservation as an integral part of the nation's identity. The event also received commendation from Mr. Kwadwo Agyei-Darko, a former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and a former Member of Parliament for Sunyani West Constituency, who praised the Diocese for organizing the celebration.
