Sekondi-takoradi: Some residents in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region have welcomed the government's decision to prioritize the completion of stalled major development projects within the metropolis. Their reaction came after the government listed some of these projects as a priority for continuation and completion.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Finance, in his Mid-Year Budget Review presented to Parliament, listed the Paa Grant Interchange and Sekondi-Takoradi township roads - phase one, the PTC Interchange Project, Sekondi-Takoradi Water Supply, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital expansion, and the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment projects as those prioritised for completion. These projects were part of some 55 bilateral projects across the country that were halted due to Ghana's external debt restructuring. However, following extensive government engagements, a list of 24 priority projects was submitted to the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) and the IMF to resume funds disbursement for completion.
When Ghana News Agency interacted with some of the residents on the new development, they commended the government for its resolve to complete these projects to bring relief to the people. Mr. Alfred Korankye, a resident, expressed satisfaction that these uncompleted projects have been captured in the mid-year budget review, providing clarity on their expected completion. Mr. Stephen Mends, a taxi driver, expressed delight about the update on the PTC Interchange, stating it would help ease occasional traffic congestion in town upon completion. Others expressed hope that the government would commit the necessary funds to ensure the successful completion of the projects according to set deadlines.
