Kasbah: A small Cabinet meeting was held on Tuesday at the Government Palace in Kasbah, chaired by Prime Minister Sara Zaafrani Zenzri, to review preparations for the 2025-2026 agricultural season and ensure optimal conditions for its successful launch. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, it was decided to accelerate fertiliser stockpiling to fully cover the needs of the 2025-2026 season while maintaining current chemical fertiliser prices. This initiative aligns with the state's social role in helping farmers acquire supplies at reasonable prices and manage production costs effectively. Additionally, the meeting focused on streamlining financing procedures for all activities related to the 2025-2026 agricultural season. This includes ensuring an adequate energy supply for chemical fertiliser storage centres, guaranteeing their safety, and ensuring equitable distribution within the domestic market. The Cabinet also decided, as per a Prime Ministry statement, to organise a training session in June 202 5 by the Sectoral Centre for Transport and Logistics Training in Borj Cedria. This training, mandated under Law No. 37 of 1997, is essential for hazardous materials truck drivers and prohibits ammonia transport without proper certification. The decision was also made to immediately implement the 'Engrais' digital platform to modernise agricultural sector monitoring. This platform enables comprehensive tracking of fertiliser distribution from producer to consumer, ensuring access for all stakeholders. During the meeting, the latest agricultural indicators and results from the previous season were discussed and analysed. Preparations for the 2025-26 season were presented, with a focus on challenges facing the agricultural sector and investment opportunities. Key data related to the progress of preparations at all levels was also highlighted. Plans for supplying chemical fertilisers were discussed, following an assessment of local market supply during the 2024-25 season. The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Res ources and Fisheries' fertiliser needs for the 2025-26 season were defined, focusing on technical and logistical preparations to meet demand for fertilisers such as agricultural ammonium nitrate, ammonium phosphate, and triple superphosphate. Coordination with the Tunisian Chemical Group, the producer of these materials, was emphasised to ensure farmers have access to necessary production inputs. At the meeting's conclusion, the Prime Minister urged ministers to enhance coordination with regional and local structures, as well as stakeholders in the agricultural and industrial sectors, to increase production and build strategic stockpiles of chemical fertilisers. She stressed the importance of safety conditions, preventive measures, and constant communication with farmers, alongside launching awareness campaigns to ensure the 2025-26 agricultural season proceeds smoothly.
