Spain and Morocco Collaborate to Arrest Two Alleged Daesh Supporters

Madrid: In a coordinated operation with Morocco's General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Spain's National Police have arrested two individuals in northern Spain who are suspected of being members of Daesh. The arrests took place in the cities of Itsasondo, Guipúzcoa, and Avilés, Asturias, as part of an ongoing investigation into individuals accused of indoctrination, dissemination of terrorist propaganda, and incitement to commit violent acts. According to Ghana News Agency, the suspects had been under surveillance since the beginning of the year due to their activities on social media platforms. Authorities reported that they were spreading messages in support of Daesh, advocating for violence and terrorism. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Central Court of Investigation and coordinated with the Public Prosecutor's Office of Spain's National Court. The Spanish National Police highlighted the critical role of international cooperation, particularly with Morocco's DG ST, in combating terrorism. The collaboration has led to numerous arrests of suspected terrorists in recent years. The police emphasized that such partnerships are "essential" for enhancing the effectiveness of counter-terrorism efforts, drawing on the professionalism and expertise of the services involved. The recent arrests signify a continued commitment to the fight against terrorism both within Spain and through international alliances, which the Spanish police describe as a "strategic priority." The operation underscores the importance of sustained international cooperation in addressing global security threats.
