Tema Metro Health Directorate Conducts HIV Cadres Review Meeting

Tema: The Tema Metropolitan Health Directorate's HIV/TB Unit recently convened a review meeting for HIV cadres within the metropolis, focusing on sharing best practices to improve patient care. The meeting brought together stakeholders, including healthcare and administrative staff, to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange aimed at enhancing the quality of care for HIV patients.

According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting provided a structured platform for discussing health and wellness within contexts such as workplaces, communities, or specific health programs. Madam Joanna Anorkor Lartey, the Tema Metro HIV/TB Coordinator, highlighted the meeting's role in assessing health outcomes and developing strategies for health promotion and disease prevention.

Madam Lartey emphasized that the gathering allowed for addressing challenges and areas for improvement in HIV/AIDS management. Strategies were discussed to reduce the defaulter rate among newly enrolled People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and those already on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART). The roles of cadres in managing clients effectively and efficiently were also a key discussion point.

Participants included individuals from both private and public facilities in the metropolis, as well as representatives from the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the HIV/AIDS self-testing ambassador for Tema. Identified challenges included a lack of collaboration among staff caring for HIV patients and the cadres, and privacy issues in private facilities limiting cadres' activities.

Madam Lartey urged ART unit staff to collaborate effectively with all cadres for improved client management and encouraged private facility heads to provide suitable areas for cadres to conduct their activities.
