Thieves Allegedly Steal Drought-Relief Items from Warehouse in Techiman

Techiman: Thieves have allegedly broken into the warehouse of the Techiman Metropolitan Department of Agriculture and made away with about 9,860 bags of rice and quantities of fertilizers.

According to Ghana News Agency, the stolen items included 2.5kg bags of rice and significant quantities of fertilizers, specifically 4,447 5kg bags of MP4 fertilizers and 3,150 5kg bags of Urea fertilizers. The theft reportedly occurred a week after the December 7 General Election, targeting items meant for distribution to drought-affected farmers in the area.

Madam Grace Obeng Amenya, the Techiman Metropolitan Officer in charge of Stock at the Techiman Metro Department of Agriculture, revealed the details during an interview. She mentioned that the items had been received a week before the elections. However, just before the elections, they received a call indicating that unknown individuals had besieged the warehouse and stolen the items. The thieves allegedly broke the original padlocks and replaced them with new ones.

The incident has been reported to the police, and a regional investigative team has been set up to probe further. Upon investigation by the team, it was confirmed that the items were indeed stolen. Mr. Stephen Aidoo, the Techiman Metropolitan Director of the Department of Agriculture, also confirmed the incident and mentioned that investigations are ongoing, although no arrests have been made so far.
