Washington: US President Donald Trump has asserted that Iran is eager to finalize an agreement with Washington despite what he describes as Tehran's constant complaints during negotiations.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump, in an interview with Fortune magazine, discussed the ongoing talks between the United States and Iran. He remarked, "They scream all the time," implying Iran's frustration in the discussions. Trump further claimed that Iran is very willing to sign a deal but often presents proposals that deviate significantly from the initial agreements, questioning their approach with, "Are you people crazy?"
The interview also highlighted Trump's depiction of Iran's leadership as akin to a "stubborn business rival," underscoring the complex and contentious nature of the discussions.
Tensions between the US and Iran have been heightened since February when the US and Israel conducted strikes against Iranian targets. In response, Iran launched retaliatory strikes on Israeli positions and US allies in the Gulf region, including the United Arab Emirates, and temporarily closed the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
While a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan took effect on April 8, subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to yield a permanent resolution. President Trump later opted to extend the truce indefinitely, leaving the future of US-Iran relations uncertain.
