Tunisia Offers to Host UNSMIL-Facilitated Libyan Dialogue Amid Tripoli Unrest

Tunis: Tunisia has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Tripoli, and the impact this has on the security and safety of Libyans and other residents of this neighbourly country. In a statement on Friday evening, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad declared Tunisia's readiness to host a Libyan-Libyan dialogue facilitated by the UN mission to Libya (UNSMIL) to achieve a peaceful resolution. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, Tunisia cited the two nations' shared destiny and its commitment to supporting Libyan-led solutions free from external interference. "Tunisia stands prepared to serve as neutral ground for Libyan brothers to pursue a political settlement that preserves Libya's unity and meets its people's aspirations for security and stability," the statement affirmed. The statement emphasised the importance of heeding the voice of reason and prioritising the national interest within a framework of consensus among all Libyan parties. It unde rscored the necessity of initiating a comprehensive process under the auspices of the United Nations, aiming to end violence and advance the political process in Libya towards organising elections and establishing unified, permanent state institutions. These institutions would consider the interests of all Libyan citizens, regardless of their background, and ensure the unity, sovereignty, and stability of the state. Tunisia reiterated its call for an immediate end to the escalation in all regions of Libya, stressing the risks these developments pose to the country's future and its people. The statement urged an end to violence and for weapons to be put down, encouraging Libyans to resolve their differences through dialogue.
