Tunis: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad released a statement on Africa Day, marking the 62nd anniversary of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). The ministry highlighted the significance of the OAU as a framework for promoting pan-African principles and cooperation for peace, security, and development across the continent. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the ministry underscored that the aspirations of the OAU's founding fathers for unity and economic integration have been hindered by external interventions. Tunisia reiterated its dedication to fostering brotherhood and cooperation with African nations based on mutual respect, solidarity, and shared interests. The country is committed to supporting African peoples' rights to build a secure, unified, stable, and prosperous Africa. The statement emphasized Tunisia's efforts to enhance the African dimension in its bilateral and multilateral relations. Bilaterally, Tunisia aims to strengthen cooperation with African countries in political, economic, academic, and cultural fields, emphasizing South-South cooperation. Multilaterally, Tunisia has contributed to peacekeeping operations since the 1960s, reinforcing its reputation at both African and UN levels. During recent summits, Tunisia advocated for Africa's permanent representation on the UN Security Council and called for attention to African demands in reforming the international financial system. Tunisia positions itself as a bridge between Africa, the Arab world, and the Mediterranean, recognizing Africa's potential for growth and prosperity due to its natural resources and young talent. Tunisia's African affiliation is seen as a historical fact and a core component of its civilizational identity. The statement highlighted the need for African countries to unify their positions and strengthen solidarity in response to global changes that challenge the multilateral system and the UN's role. Tunisia calls for a more just and equitable international order that addres ses the injustices stemming from the post-World War II international system. Tunisia reiterates again its hope that the turmoil and conflicts in some countries on the Continent, which threaten their security and stability, will be overcome, resulting in a serious exacerbation of the phenomenon of irregular migration, which is being exploited by transnational organized crime networks. It will not hesitate to exert efforts to establish a comprehensive, participatory and solidarity approach to address this phenomenon on the basis of responsibility and burden sharing between source, transit and destination countries to preserve the dignity of the African human being and provide him with the necessary development potential to live in dignity in his homeland.Tunisia, proud of its African belonging, believes that Africa will remain for Africans and that the time has come to adopt a new and innovative approach that promotes solidarity, cooperation and integration among the countries of the Continent. Tunisia will p ersevere in its efforts to enshrine its African belonging and solidarity with all the countries of the Continent in order to elevate their importance and achieve their common interests and goals of security, stability, development and a better tomorrow for current and future generations."/CT# #CT#General/CT#
