UEW Chancellor Appeals for Peace in Bawku Amidst Graduation Ceremony

Winneba: Neenyi Ghartey VII, Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has made an earnest appeal for peace in Bawku and its surrounding communities. Speaking at the Second Session of the 29th Congregation at the Winneba campus, where 6,769 students were awarded degrees, diplomas, and certificates through the university’s Distance Education programme, Neenyi Ghartey emphasized the need to silence the guns and promote harmony.

According to Ghana News Agency, Neenyi Ghartey, who is also the Paramount Chief of Effutu Traditional Area, highlighted the plight of those living in conflict-affected areas. He called for unity and reason, reminding everyone that conflict only leads to suffering, loss, and destruction of lives and future dreams.

Neenyi Ghartey described Bawku as a region rich in culture and resilience, known for its industrious people. However, he lamented that the ongoing violence is tearing families apart, preventing children from attending school, and devastating livelihoods. He urged the youth to resist being used as instruments of destruction and instead become advocates for peace and development.

He further stated the importance of intensified diplomatic efforts and security measures to ensure lasting peace in Bawku. Neenyi Ghartey called upon academics, policymakers, graduates, and parents to advocate for peace, emphasizing that seeking peace is a demonstration of strength and vision for a prosperous Ghana.

Addressing the graduates, Neenyi Ghartey encouraged them to measure their success by the impact they have on their communities. He urged them to embody values such as honesty, respect, and responsibility in their professional and personal lives. He advised them to build strong relationships through collaboration and to be innovative, ethical, and compassionate in all their endeavors.

As graduates of UEW, Neenyi Ghartey reminded them of their responsibility to their community, nation, and the world, encouraging them to be agents of change and to align their purpose with their strengths and passions.
