Accra: Mr. Charles Abani, the UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana, has underscored the importance of sustainable financing and development, alongside robust private sector engagement, for achieving Agenda 2063, Africa's blueprint for transformation and economic growth. According to Ghana News Agency, speaking at the 2024 Business Safari in Accra, Mr. Abani highlighted the limitations of traditional funding sources in meeting the objectives of Agenda 2063. He pointed out that the private sector is vital in driving Africa's development, emphasizing its role in job creation, innovation, and resource mobilization. The event, organized by The Global Africa Trade Advisory Chamber in collaboration with the Ghana India Trade Advisory Chamber, brought together leaders from various sectors to discuss development strategies. Mr. Abani elaborated on the necessity for the private sector to become more involved in policymaking to attract investments that align with the seven aspirations of Agenda 2063. He argued that for th e African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to be successful, it is crucial for governments to collaborate with the private sector to foster a business-friendly environment that supports trade and mobility. To leverage the benefits of regional integration, Mr. Abani called for strengthened public-private partnerships, which he believes are essential for spurring innovation and increasing competitiveness. These partnerships, according to him, are key to achieving the sustainable economic growth needed to fulfill the continent's development agenda. Furthermore, Dr. Dominic Oduro Antwi, President of GATAC and GITAC, also spoke at the event about the critical role of the private sector in transforming agricultural outputs through technology and innovation. He emphasized the potential for Ghana to boost its agribusiness sector by enhancing processing capacities and reducing post-harvest losses, thereby strengthening its position in the global market. These discussions at the Business Safari underscore the co ncerted efforts required by governments, international organizations, and private entities to realize the ambitious goals of Agenda 2063 through effective partnerships and innovative strategies.
