Accra: Ms Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono Region, led a delegation from the Wenchi Traditional Council to the Presidency to officially invite President John Dramani Mahama to the pre-burial and final funeral rites of the late paramount queen mother of Wenchi, Atoa Otonsuo Tweewa Seramangyedua III. The funeral is scheduled to take place from Saturday, November 1, to Sunday, November 30, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, the late Seramangyedua III passed away on June 13, 2025, at the age of 95 after a brief illness. The delegation included notable figures such as Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, the Paramount Chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area, and other dignitaries like Nana Damoah Adusi Poku Koasane IV, Nana Ampem Agyei Gyan Ankama Dadaa IV, and Nana Opoku Agyemang Asumadu II.
Additionally, the delegation was accompanied by Ambassador Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NDC and Board Chairman of the Bui Power Authority, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, the Chairman of the Gold Board, and Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame, the former Attorney General. Ms Opoku, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Wenchi FM, mentioned that the delegation did not meet President Mahama, but was instead received by the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, who accepted the invitation.
The late Seramangyedua III, known privately as Abena Nsia Boatemaa, was enstooled on January 7, 1977, and served for 48 years. As per tradition, the Wenchi Traditional Council has mandated that residents wear funeral attire in black or red during the funeral rites. Nana Owusu Ameyaw Ababio, the Head of Ahenfie Yefiri Royal Family, emphasized the importance of compliance with this directive to avoid any issues during the ceremonies.
