Women In Poultry To Celebrate 8th Anniversary With Chicken Road Show

Accra: The Women In Poultry Value Chain (WIPVaC), in collaboration with the West Africa Food System Resilience Programme (FSRP), is set to commemorate its 8th anniversary with a Chicken Road Show this week. The celebration will be held at the forecourt of CLOGSAG Headquarters, within the Ministries enclave in Accra, on Tuesday, 29th April 2025. The event promises free public sampling of hot, nutritious grilled chicken, as detailed in a recent news brief.

According to Ghana News Agency, there will also be a promotional sale offering fresh, frozen, and homegrown chicken at affordable prices, accompanied by lively music. WIPVaC is an organization that unites women across the poultry value chain, including suppliers of day-old chicks, poultry farmers, egg sellers, and processors of poultry products. The goal is to create opportunities for women that stimulate societal development.

WIPVaC benefits from the MOFA-FSRP’s Poultry Intensification Scheme (PIS), which began last year. Under this scheme, the organization received input credit including day-old chicks, feeds, vaccines, and training for broiler production. Their inaugural production cycle under the scheme is nearing completion and is expected to hit the market soon.

Ms. Emelda Adii, Gender Focal Person of FSRP, conveyed to the Ghana News Agency that the project is revitalizing defunct farms and businesses. She emphasized the role of the initiative in enabling women to support their families and combat climate change effects.

Madam Victoria Norgbe, President of WIPVaC, highlighted that the input credit project is alleviating the challenges faced by association members in procuring necessary resources like day-old chicks. She expressed that the Road Show aims to promote the consumption of locally produced chicken and bolster the national economy.

The FSRP had previously organized a similar Chicken Road Show during the National Farmers Day Exhibitions at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, where visitors enjoyed homegrown grilled chicken. The FSRP is a Government of Ghana initiative executed by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, funded by the World Bank, and coordinated by ECOWAS.
