Accra: Zoomlion Ghana Limited has expressed its full support for the accountability measures initiated by the Government concerning its expired Youth Employment Agency (YEA) contract. These measures include audits and verification of payments, which the company views as essential steps to ensure transparency and integrity in public engagements.
According to Ghana News Agency, Zoomlion Ghana has also shown its readiness to engage in future competitive bidding processes for upcoming sanitation modules. This announcement follows the government’s decision to abrogate the company’s YEA contract, with Zoomlion officials clarifying that the contract had “expired naturally” rather than being terminated or canceled.
The Office of The President recently addressed a petition by investigative journalist Manasseh Azuri Awuni, confirming that the YEA and Zoomlion contract, which expired in 2024, would not be renewed. In response, the Government has planned to audit all payments made to Zoomlion post-expiration of the YEA
contract.
Zoomlion Ghana clarified that this government decision does not affect other existing contracts. The YEA contract in question was specifically for the Street Sweeping Programme, initially set to expire in March 2024, but extended to September 2024. The company emphasized that the contract had reached its natural end and was neither terminated nor canceled by the government.
Further, Zoomlion highlighted that the letter from the Presidency does not suggest termination of its other contracts or the overall YEA sanitation module. The expired contract was competitively procured in 2019, and Zoomlion affirmed its intention to participate actively in future procurement processes.
The company praised the Government’s efforts to enhance the remuneration of sanitation workers as a part of ongoing sector reforms, which they believe will improve service delivery and foster public trust. Zoomlion reiterated its commitment to building a “cleaner, greener, and more resilient Ghana” through collaboration with t
he government and other stakeholders.
Zoomlion also highlighted its mission aligned with national development goals, aiming to improve sanitation systems, create dignified employment, protect the environment, and uphold high standards of public service. The company underscored its long-standing partnership with successive governments on the YEA module for over 19 years, indicating its dedication to Ghana’s sustainable development goals and recognition of its contributions by the government.
