Cape Coast: The Aggrey Memorial A.M.E Zion Senior High School in Cape Coast has inaugurated its 85th anniversary festivities with the unveiling of a new logo, urging greater collaboration among stakeholders to enhance the quality of education. Mrs Rita Ohene-Sarfo, Chief Engineer at the Ministry of Roads and Highways and an alumna of the school, emphasized the importance of leveraging the capabilities of students, alumni, and parents in the pursuit of educational excellence. According to Ghana News Agency, the anniversary will celebrate the school's achievements over the past eight and a half decades and explore new strategies for making a greater impact. The celebration, themed 'Building on 85 years of quality education: The role of stakeholders,' commenced with a well-attended launch spearheaded by the Aggrey Memorial Old Students' Association (AMOSA Global). The event successfully raised substantial funds to support the school. Mrs Ohene-Sarfo highlighted the necessity of involving students in educationa l decision-making, noting that their experiences and feedback on the curriculum and teaching methods are invaluable. She also advocated for creative freedom for teachers, criticizing the limitations imposed by standardized guidelines, which often hinder innovative teaching approaches. Furthermore, Mrs Ohene-Sarfo called for strong alumni networks, stressing their potential to significantly impact schools through resources, connections, and professional exposure for students. She challenged alumni to actively support their alma mater and urged students to remain ambitious and diligent, while encouraging teachers to stay committed to their educational roles. The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Dorothy Adentwi-Hayford, reflected on the school's legacy, acknowledging the significant contributions of alumni and predecessors. She emphasized the importance of evolving with the changing world while staying true to the school's founding vision. Dr Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, the Global President of the alumni associat ion, expressed concern over the school's neglect by successive governments, which has led to infrastructure deficiencies. He appealed for government intervention to complete abandoned projects and encouraged alumni to contribute towards enhancing the school's status.
