Techiman: Oheneba Antwi-Bosiako II, the Chief of Kenten in the Techiman Traditional Area of the Bono East Region, has urged families to instill in children indigenous traditional norms and cultural values in their upbringing and development. He emphasized that this approach would encourage the younger generation to embrace, accept, revere, promote, and preserve the nation's rich cultural heritage.
According to Ghana News Agency, Oheneba Antwi-Boasiako, who is also the Coordinator of the Techiman Metropolitan Directorate of Education, shared this advice during this year's Basic School Arts and Culture Festival organized by the Directorate in Techiman. He noted that culture and tradition play a crucial role in instilling discipline in children, which facilitates their proper upbringing and development. He described culture and tradition as a 'way of life' that binds people together.
Nana Daasebre Kwarteng Amaniampong, the Chief of Buoyem who presided over the event, also encouraged school children to observe their diverse cultural heritage, highlighting that such awareness would help them grow into responsible individuals.
Some of the school children interviewed by the Ghana News Agency expressed their excitement and shared that they had learned a lot from the celebration. The festival saw hundreds of Basic School children dressed in locally woven kente fabric and smock, drawn from various circuits of the directorate. They participated in the festival by performing unique cultural displays, dances, drum language, choral music, and poetry recitals, enriching the celebration with vibrant cultural expressions.
