NADMO Identifies 78 Flood Prone Areas in Bono Region

Sunyani: The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has identified 78 flood-prone communities in the Bono Region, according to Mrs. Fati Kine-Lam, the Bono Regional Director of NADMO. She emphasized the organization's efforts to implement proactive measures to manage potential flooding in these areas as the rainy season approaches. Residents, particularly those in Banda-Ahenkro, Sunyani Central Business District (CBD), Sunyani Kuotokrom, and Berekum Municipality, have been advised to exercise caution during rainfall.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Kine-Lam highlighted that NADMO has intensified public education on disaster management. The organization is urging residents to refrain from erecting structures and buildings on waterways and flood-prone areas. Concern was expressed over the unauthorized construction of structures and kiosks in many of the 12 politically administrative districts and municipalities within the region. The Assemblies have been called upon to address this issue.

Mrs. Kine-Lam noted that these unauthorized structures block waterways and urged the public to avoid indiscriminate dumping of plastic waste, which contributes to clogged gutters and poor drainage systems in many towns and communities.
